Sangeet
What to wear · Occasion guide
Sangeetbuilt to be danced in
The sangeet is the one night you will actually be on your feet for hours, under stage lights, with a camera on you most of the time. So the outfit has two jobs at once — it has to catch light on video, and it has to let you lift your arms. Most grooms get the first part right and forget the second.
The brief
Wear this
An indo western, a bandhgala jodhpuri, or a structured kurta under a short jacket. Short length over full length — a hem that ends at the hip moves with you instead of against you.
Fabric
Raw silk, brocade, jacquard, light velvet. These hold their shape under light. Ask us to keep the lining light — that is what makes a heavy-looking piece wearable for four hours.
Finish it with
A brooch, a pocket square, and shoes you have already broken in. Skip the long dupatta tonight — keep it for the baraat.

Pieces that work for a sangeet
Worth knowing
- Try the armhole at the fitting — raise both arms over your head before you approve it
- Metallic thread and sequins read beautifully on video under stage lights
- Darker jewel tones stop the outfit washing out in flash photography
- Tell us if you have a choreographed entry — it changes the cut we recommend
- A full-length heavy sherwani — you will stop dancing within the hour
- A trailing dupatta — someone will step on it on a crowded floor
- Pale ivory — it tends to flatten out under white stage lighting
- Brand new shoes — one night of dancing is the worst time to break them in
Tell us the date and whether the sangeet is indoors or on a lawn, and if you have a performance planned. That decides the weight and the cut. Out of town? Book a video call and we will show you the pieces live.
